This clubhouse in the Drakensberg Mountains offers a private oasis for guests of the Protea Valley Lodge to gather. This building was designed to blend into the earth while introducing a luxurious space for games, relaxation and socializing to take place. Light floods in from skylights above, while leaving the earth around them almost undisturbed. This space provides a somewhat hidden, but by no means quaint, hub of activity for guests to enjoy while soaking up the view of the rolling valleys to the North.

The client's car club motivated the wide driveway and showcase garage which is the only element you will see as you approach the site. This garage forms a glowing beacon in the night and draws focus to the scenic roadtrip feeling you get when pairing these supercars and classics with landscapes like these.

The outdoor entertainment area sprawls out into the landscape, hosting the perfect position for afternoon sundowners with friends. The building was inspired by precedents where architects have chosen to work with the landscape as oppose to against it. We have carved away in most cases, only adding subtle additions in others. The landscape dips down into the carved out space and then dances up to celebrate the cars which have become an extension of the view for these car lovers.

The colour and material palette were chosen to be subtle and blend to the tones that most resemble the surrounding terrains and foliage. Only the natural elements of fire, water and flowers are used to pull a pop of colour back into this artificial landscape plug-in.
