When your starting point is a old vaulted arch in a snowy forest in the UK, the existing structure can only be central to your design. This self-sustaining suite was created by chambers leading out from each arch of the vaulted arch to create pockets of function. To the South lies a gallery to allow natural light and, hopefully, warmth in throughout the day, along with the kitchen. To the West, there are shower, vanity and lavatory chambers. To the North, the bedroom and dressing chambers.

FLOOR PLAN

The bedroom is flooded with dappled light as sunrays filter through the trees and straight into the earthy bedroom. The external rock face was used to position the building so that it could become an integrated wall to form part of the natural art, headboard piece and sturdy enclosure for this bedroom.

BEDROOM ELEVATION

The arches that form a backdrop to the showers are the implied defining factors of the area - without them, there is no beginning or end - encouraging a sense of openness and vulnerability within an overall comforting space.
